Match Report - Allstars Sunday 14th Jan

Divisional Cup 1st Round – Gower Allstars 7 North Park 0

To call this a mis-match was a compliment to North Park (NP).

NP had previously won 1, and lost 6 in Division 2. The Allstars are unbeaten in Division 1 – hence the vast difference in quality, and overall footballing ability.

The Allstars started with 10 men as they waited on Kelly to arrive, and soon showed their class, by passing the ball round excellently, and dominating NP in attack and defence.

The scoring was opened in style by Medley who used his pace to nick the ball underneath the keeper and give us the lead.

Soon after, still with 10 men, Durrant scored….. the worst goal ever, after a series of missed chances – still a goal is a goal.

A few minutes later, yes you guessed it, still with 10 men, Medley’s power and pace created a goal out of nothing, after he turned and walloped a 20 yarder into the top corner, leaving the keeper helpless.

3-0 with 10 men, 15 gone.

When the NP defenders realised we only had 10 men, and we bought on our 11th man, I recall their centre-back saying “oh for fucks sake”.

That kind of summed it all up.

Gowers blocked out any potential threat, defensively in the midfield and the back four were rarely found wanting. We went onto miss a succession of glaring chances – after playing some decent stuff., and Durrant and Medley should both have had a hatrick in the first half.

Second half, Gowers stepped up another gear, and scored almost immediately, through their Captain who swivelled onto an uncleared corner and on the half volley found the side netting.

4-0

Medley then scored a nice 3rd goal but it was his 4th goal that was the pick of the bunch – again too much to handle for NP centre-back, Medley beat his man by turning him, creating the space, and smashing the ball, beating the keeper.

6-0

And last goal was scored by Kelly, who was put through one on one – by a perfect back defence splitting pass, by errr, the Captain again.

7-0

Absolute demolition job. None of the team even looked tired, and Rod in goal could have been playing Sudoko for all we knew. Even felt sorry for NP after 10 mins being 3-0 up with 10 men.

Special mention to Gladstone and Klinger who both had good games on the left, and created many of our goals.

MOTM = Medley – proper handful for NP defence, and another 4 goals to add to his tally. Dominating performance.

Well done all – Divisional Cup will be ours (unless the Phoenix get in the way!)
