Gower 3 NVH 1

Pre-season Friendly

Gower (Greg – Dens, Dave O, Treeno, Henry – Sumner, Jake, Mitch, Wall – Tim, Luke)

A decent opposition and good pitch and a good work out all round for the men of Gower FC as they continued their preparation for the big kick off on the 16th of September.

The team started slowly with clear signs of rustiness and not having played much together in recent weeks. Several passes went astray and the midfield was slightly congested as the players got to grips with the game.

In hot weather Tim’s running was a constant threat although his final touch and shot slightly deserted him for much of the match. Rolling subs saw the introduction of Aaron Stone up front and Danny Heymann making his first appearance for the men in maroon and black. Hard work from Aaron combined with decent passing out from the midfield – Sumner and Jake particularly – resulted in the pacey winger tackling the last man and clipping a neat finish to make it 1-0.

Treeno made his first start after a long time out and was back to his customary best with lots of shouting, the occasional lung bursting drive forward and plenty of banter. With Dave alongside him they never looked challenged in the first half especially with excellent tackling and distribution from Henry De’ath who will challenge for right back position in the forthcoming season.

In the second half Gower let slip a goal as a deft chip squeezed past Greg. Dens, playing up front, beat the keeper to a Tim through pass and was denied by a last ditch tackle, from his resultant corner Dave’s header was turned in for Aaron Stone’s second goal. Later Treeno would convert a Sumner free kick with typical aplomb – it will be interesting to see if Alex Wright will score more from similar moves..

So all in all a good work out – the team needs to keep working on simple pass and move with our work rate and general tackling ability placing us in a good position with four weeks to go before kick off.

MOTM: Aaron Stone – brave, busy and always involved paid off with a brace.
