Gower Allstars match report - vs Crown & Goose - league 23-02-09
By Tim Medders Medley, for the last time before hes off to Brazeeeeel.
The All Stars beat Crown and Goose 4-2 in what was billed as Medley’s Testimonial.
On a sunny day at UCS, the All Stars looked to continue their unbeaten season with a win against the leagues bottom team. C+G started their warm up an hour before kick off with a much newer team than previously seen but it was not enough to decent the air of optimism in the Gower changing room.
Team: Glyn, Loz, Tom, Dave, Sav, Oli, Ricky, Roger, Hurly, Medley, Blandy.
All Stars started strongly with Medley scuffing a few shots either wide or into a defender, Blandy slotted home within ten minutes but was called offside. With the defence bossing the C+G attack the pressure was all from Gower in the first 25 and after a succession of corners that reflected Gowers dominance (bets on over 8 corners were paid) Hurly got onto one from the right with a volley that the keeper didn’t have time to move for.
Gower continued to pressure C+G with great play from Oli and Hurly down either side, which demonstrated how good they are on wider pitches, chances were regular and a second goal was on the cards. It did arrive via a Blandy shot from 30 yards out that really should have been saved. Game over? Not even close.
Sav managed to bundle over the C+G defender in the box to gift them a lifeline back into the game. Glyn in goal had different ideas and pulled off a save with a salmon esq block. C+G were recharged and scored before half time with a goal that was offside, Kelly was the lino and raised his flag so slowly that the ref thought “he didn’t seem sure”.
The move of the game then came with a ball from Oli into Medley who with one touch played a reverse pass to Blandy down the right. Blandy then passed it back to Medley who shot first time only to see the keeper save it. This was followed by the C+G equalizer lobbing Glyn in goal with a glancing header, that certainly didn’t reflect the shots or possession.
All Stars were straight back in it 2 minutes later when Medley and Oli traded passes just inside the oppositions half. Medley then lofted a 40 yard pass into the box that Blandy managed to get onto a flick past the keeper who was rooted to the spot.
The forth came from a free kick on the center circle that was sent into the box by Ossack and converted by a C+G defender. 4-2
Further chances came and C+G should really have got back into it but were to busy moaning at the ref every two minutes. All stars on the other hand had run out of steam but the game was won. Typical Sunday football.
MOM: Hurly and Blandy - constant menaces upfront and showed true skills to beat their men, all game.
Keep it up boys Ill be reading the reports from the beach to try and fill the void.
