Clissold Thistle vs Gower Allstars - Match Report - Group Cup 14th October

Clissold Thistle 0 Gower Allstars 8

The Allstars raped a timid and weak Clissold Thistle on Sunday 14 October with an 8-0 thrashing.

Although Clissold put up a relatively decent start, it was 15 minutes before Botterill broke the deadlock, finding space through the centre, breaking right and firing home.

The next 10 minutes saw Clissold hold the Allstars to just a slim 1 goal advantage, and at times, the Allstars looked lacklustre, but Medley created some space down the left, and finished from an angle, to take it to a 2-0 lead.

The goal of the game came from a real team effort on 30 mins, when some good interchanging down the left between Capone, and Duggan, eventually found Medley 25 yards out, and with plenty of time, he took his aim and shot low and hard into the bottom left corner – to give the Gowers a 3-0 half time coasting lead.

Goals continued quickly in the second half, via Glyn from outside the box, Durrant following up on a perfect cross from Kelly, and Kelly himself with a lovely late hatrick, with both feet and head, to make it 8-0.

To be fair, had Medley and others put away half their chances, it could have been 20 – and the frightening fact was, that the referee, who had refereed Clissold 8 times previously, said this was the best performance he had ever seen of theirs. Frightening indeed.

Honourable mentions should go to Botterill who was class throughout, Hill for filling in at centre back, and Kelly for scoring a hatrick, but MOTM this week goes to Sav Capone, who at left back, defended and created consistently well throughout the game, and is becoming more and more solid at an unfamiliar position.

Well Done all. Tougher game this week in the league at home Music Choice – be focused, be up for it.

Group Cup

The least said about this game the better.

The key points are that the Phoenix simply did not want it as much as the opposition. We literally did not show up for this game and the scoreline reflects that. Despite not being overwhelmed in possession against a side that we’d beaten a few weeks previously there was no concentration and composure on the ball that usually is the way the side plays.

Lucky it was only a cup game in the group stages.

Next week we’re back in the league that we aim to win and we ALL have to be at the races and want it more than the oppo.

Comes on boys, lets show the Phoenix character!
