Gower Phoenix 2 Japanese Team 1

Friendly – Gower Phoenix (4-4-2) Joe P – Dens, Wall, Nick, Howie – Simon, Jamie Wood, Adam Lucas, Bradley – Fleshie, Japanese guy

On an extremely muddy Tufnell Park pitch (Regents Park games were called off) – Gower Phoenix won an enjoyable friendly against a decent opposition.

The aim of the game was possession. Phoenix – with new players at centre back and on the right wing – started slowly as they got used to conditions. Soon however with the back four spreading it around and Lucas and Bradley beginning to bite in the centre – Phoenix took control.

Chances were few however, Fleshie almost took the lead but delayed his shot and Bradley shot wide from a difficult angle. The Wall shot well from distance and Dens had a 20 yard stinger finger-tipped saved by their keeper.

2nd ½ and disaster as in the midst of the referee off the pitch changing his top – the Phoenix defence stopped allowing a winger to get 1 yard out before battering a cross which deflected off Dens and in – 1-0 down.

Phoenix’s response was immediate – the Wall planted a free header wide before Joe Paley, playing up front, skipped through and finished a great goal after collecting a ball from Lucas. 1-1. Then Phoenix got a soft penalty as Lucas went down in the area and Fleshie made it 2-1.

Backs against the wall for the last ten minutes including Jamie Wood making a couple of great saves and Dens blocking on the line with the goal gapping.

2-1 it finished. Positives include great possession play and calmness on the ball and excellent first games from a towering centre back hungry for the ball and a pacy new right winger.

Big game next weekend (30th November) – Outback at Regents Park at 1.30pm - make sure you're available.

MOTM – James Bradley – worked tirelessly in very muddy conditions in the centre of the park.
