Look at the date you mugs!

As if I would EVER leave the glorious Gower FC for Red Star

Please give me some credit!

Well at least some of you realised it was an April Fool. To confirm, Glyn is going nowhere. Fear not, he is firmly staying as manager to defend the Premier title next year, bring it on....

Read below for some hilarious responses from the squad... especially the last few

Ollie Durrant - very sweet but you should be totally embarrassed!

That’s great news and a wonderful coincidence. We all secretly agreed to sign for Red Star last week (and they for Gower) so we’ll end up with you after all!

Mate I don't know what to say. Why didn't you say anything last night??
I think you're making a brave but good decision mate. Going out on top is always the best way to go. Who knows.....red star next season......tottenham the year after. This could be the start of a glittering career as a player manager!
You know what I think already mate.....you're a great friend and don't want to lose touch even though we're not seeing each other at football. You've done us proud pal and achevied something that others only dream of.
Let's meet up for a drink next week.

Phil, i have to say i completely didn't see that coming. But no one can say that you have put anything less than one hundred percent into Gower fc, and to be frank much much more. It will be strange not to see your motivational emails etc, even if they were rarely aimed at me. Shame, as i would have enjoyed then even more if they had. I respect your decision, but hope you can be a future invitational player at every Gower cup. Very best wishes. Jon

Gower captain news

It is with great sadness and immense pride that i write this email.

After nearly 3.5 years of managing and playing for the mighty Gower FC, and having considered stepping down from the position for the past 18 months, i have finally decided to call it a day.

It has been one of the toughest decisions of my life, because of the enjoyment, pride and success that i have experienced playing and captaining you all over 3 incredible years.

Cup finals, Trophies, Championships, 2nd teams - you name it, we have done it.

And the main reason behind my decision, is that, after the Phoenix all but gaining promotion to the Premier Division, and the Allstars actually winning the Premier after promotion just last year, i feel i could simply not achieve any more - and every man wants to go out at the pinnacle - at the very top, and what better time for me than to do it now.

The timing has also co-incided with Eko of Red Star stepping down as manager of Red Star. We have been in constant communication over the past few months, about our relative positions - and although this may come as a bit of surprise, he has been exceptionally keen for me to "take over" at Camden Red Star, when he steps down at the end of the season. When he first mentioned it to me 3 months ago, I told him exactly where to go!

But now having won the Premier Division, I feel somewhat differently.

Having achieved all i believe i can with Gower, after many sleepless nights, i have decided to accept his offer and start a fresh with a new challenge. Some of you may well be disappointed with my decision, and feel it to be somewhat dis-loyal. However i can assure you that there will always be a place in my heart for Gowers. I have been playing for Gower football for 6 years, and i will never forget it.

You are now in the exceptionally capable hands of your new player manager Dave Ossack, who has agreed to take over from July, when pre-season will begin.

I look forward to one last immense p*ss up in May, when I will have a chance to say farewell in true Gower style to each and every one of the squad...

Thank you for making my 3.5 years so memorable.

Good Luck to you all.

All the best

Captain Corageous
Phil Glyn

Denselow heads Phoenix above sorry Ultramarine

Gower Phoenix 8 Ultramarine 0

(Gower Phoenix 4-4-2: Greg - Aaron (Dens), Ell (Owen), Treen, Oli - Jules, Muffdog, Ricky (Mike Kelly), Jon H - Fleshie, Toby)

The first day of British summer time saw bright attacking football from an assured Phoenix side overcome a poor Ultramarine 11.

Phoenix welcomed Jules to the left-wing and gave a first start at centre back for Oli Durrant. Both players excelled in a game in which few players put a foot wrong.

Things started slowly for the team and initial chances were rare. However Treen became to dominate and blunt their attacks allowing Jules in particularly to run directly against their defence. This paid dividends when the nippy winger burst through on the left and crossed for an unmarked Toby to loop a header home, 1-0.

A few minutes later and after Fleshie and Jon had both missed good chances – Fleshie crossed and again Toby was there to head home making it 2-0 at ½ time.

In the second ½ Gower really turned on the style. On game Owen Blandy and the team began to open up Ultramarine at will with the power of Ricky and Jon in the middle of the park proving too much. Ricky slotted home after good work from Jon Hanna and Toby bundled in his hat trick to make it 4-0. Jules got a brace of goals including a spanked shot through the keeper before Treen shouldered in corner to make it 7-0.

Goal of the day was the last of the lot. A fantastic driven corner from Owen was met by a bullet of a glancing header from Toby – his forth and Gower’s eighth of the day.

So fantastic preparation for the MASSIVE semi-final next Sunday. Lots of positives – Oli Durrant at centre back! Great first game from Jules on the left, Greg kept an excellent clean sheet and Treeno was a monster in the air. MOTM goes to Toby Denselow who has now scored 7 goals in 2 games and is Phoenix’s top scorer with 12 goals this season.

Next Sunday – everyone be ready – 1 game away for Phoenix 1st Cup Final = stadium, media coverage, our day in the sun. Lets do it!!
